Exploring stock choice is key to a successful book the best
way to chose a stock is to print straight onto it and assess and
compare the most appropriate and successful stock.

G.F. Smith Colour Plan Natural - When printing onto this using the lasers
in the studio the results where less than satisfactory, the ink struggled to stick
to the page and rubs off when touched although this effect shows wear and
tear this is not the look of my book and unfortunately will not be the stock I use
To buy the stock it costs £2.07 for 1 - A1 sheet approximately making 2 A3
sheets and a couple A4 this would mean I would need approx 4 sheets there
are 6 sheets containing 24 pages by having 4 X A1 sheets I would have 8 A3
sheets meaning I have 2 sheets spare for any mistakes this would cost
£8.28 not including ink. This would be quite costly if reproduced on this
stock a bulk buy of the paper would possibly reduce the cost of the stock. |

Gummed Bier Wiezen - This paper is made out of Wheat beer creating the beautiful
grain, textures and colours. This adds a depth to the images instead of appearing flat.
The texture of the paper is very smooth which is great for turning pages but the appearance
tricks you into believing it should feel different. This paper would cost £27 for 100 A4 sheets
from Gmund (Germany) there is also the option to get an uncut sheet for the print of £5
this doesn't specify a size - Because of this it would be fairly expensive to fund.

Similarly to the natural stock this is bulky newsprint costing 5p per A1 sheet which is a bargain although this paper is not as effective as the previous stock tested this is the most cost effective paper both for me as a student and to be reproduced commercially because of the cost. |
If cost were not an issue I would use Gmund Bier Weizen stock for my book
but because it is not in my budget I will be using the bulky newsprint as this is
the closest to Gmund and is cheap to buy.
