For my book I experimented with foiling I've used
my logo from brief 2 and some variations of type and
images to see the different effects of foil and which
worked better. To foil my design I printed off a laser
copy from this point you must work super quick -
place the foil over the image shiny side up and place
through the laminator as quick as possible. The first
experiments did not work because of the time it took
me to get my design through the laminator. The longer
the laser print is out the less likely the foil will stick
to the ink. When foiling I noticed that putting it through the
laminator more than once gave a better and more fuller
coverage. In conclusion images do not work brilliantly
they can be foiled but must be edited to stand out the
contrast in the image, thinner lines/ text seem to
come out better on the laminator - I imagine this is
different to the hot press, I also learnt that the holographic
foil doesn't work with this process of foiling.
Overall i am impressed with the outcome of my experiments
and would like to consider foiling the front cover of my
book this is because my book is about hand crafted
type rather than painting my type I could foil
to give a cleaner and smooth finish with still the look
of type of which is handcrafted.
