to consider the entire cover, so in a similar style writing I applied what
was most important the book title on the front, my name on the back to
signify who actually created the book and the place on the spine.
To create my cover I created a simple guide of where I would place
the 2 pieces of mount board and spine so I had a rough idea of where
the text placement could go.
Trying a number of different layouts I concluded that the best placements
were centrally aligned title page to accentuate the title, also centre aligning
the spine type so that it is quickly noticeable on a shelf making it more likely
to reach eye level. My name then placed at the bottom so it is not overly
noticeable but still able to be read and found at the back of the publication.
To foil my cover I had to use a paper stock so it could be printed
quickly and foiled immediately through the laminator. Alternatively
with more time I could of screen printed any stock to create my
cover with special foiling glue which then could be heat pressed.
The foiling came out really grainy onto my design although I wanted
it to be clearer it adds to the whole feel of the publication, making the
book look aged similarly to some of the contents in my book.
To bind my cover I used 2 A5 grey board pieces and 1 small thing slice
of card which has then been glued to place using guides and crop marks
on my print file. I have then folded the paper over the card to cover the
edges. Although at the present state some of the greybeard is visible
this will be different when the contents of the book are stuck in.
