OUGD504 Brief 3 - Front Cover Ideas/Development

Front Cover Exploration

To stick with the theme of Hand Crafted type I explored creating
my own variation on personalised type, I drew out type inspired by
both my content and typographers such as Jessica Hische and
sign guilder David Smith.

I experimented with my drawings onto illustrator as to reproduce my
book it would need to be consistent, so my front cover must be easily
reprinted to do this I scanned my type into the computers, usign tools
to variate layout colour, width and placement.

Digital Reproductions

Some of my ideas look better than others it is apparent which designs
are unlikely to work digitally, the variation of type design appears tacky and lacks
character, this design would work much better with just one typeface
to keep the design uncluttered and clear, making the design overall
sophisticated. When asking my peers for feedback the best response
was towards the plain hand-written type this was done using a brush
pen which was then scanned in to create the effect. Because this design
is fluent and flowing it is likely to work in almost any colour leaving
me to an option of colour schemes - I intend to configure the best placement
and further develop this to my final front cover. I would like to used the
colours used in traditional type/ the colours used in my duotone images
(content).
