OUGD505 Brief 2 - Study Task 2

The Brief:

In this study task we were ago group into 5's, we were given the dilemma of meat and sustainability - is it sustainable to continue to eating meat? the product in question was in response to this 'Insects' should we be eating insects instead to get our protein? If so how do we get people to eat creepy crawlys, the arguable question here is - if you can eat meat can you not eat insects?

After becoming more knoledgeable on the sustainability of meat, we were asked to find a soloution and identify the problem as to why people will not eat insects, but also how we as designers could address this. Rather than focusing on designing the point of this task was to use our knowledge to just merely think of non visual soloutions.

In our group we started by highlighting the issues with 'insects' as food some of the main and repeating points were the physical appearance.

So in response to these problems we found with eating insects we came up with effective solutions that could be implemented to improve the chance of insects being approved as food for human culture. Our solutions were to make it look tasty - and actually tasty, if it tastes good you will eat it? no? well if not it could be made into a paste/powder and placed into other foods like pasta?

Ideally the solution to getting people to eat insects is to introduce the consumption at an earlier age - this is how we could implement a soloution, as when you are younger you don't really care what you eat if its not made a fuss about... target it at school age and watch the magic.

This task really helped me explore problems and solutions really quickly and widely, and will be really useful for my studio brief 2 to help me flow ideas by identifying a problem - I will then be able to create and design a solution. I intend to use this way of thinking when tackling any brief as it has allowed me to notice issues and flaws that could possibly arise while designing.
