OUGD406 Brief 1 - Final Outcome

5 Album Covers for the Chemical Brothers

These are my initial 5 idea developments although these are strong
I am going to keep working on my designs further to see if their is a
better solution.

This concept is based on nostalgia and the extraction of "Crystal fiend"
from the lyrics. I have taken inspiration from the chemical brothers previous
album art work and had my own take on it. The connections and net look
is to represent the state of mind someone is in on drugs. I could to improve
this experiment with layering and colour to see the impact and wether it
would stand alone.

From feedback majority of people said they liked my "beard" concept and
should digitise it to see the result. I'm really proud of how this has turned
out. It reminds me of the first scenes in the music video of the drummer
my interpretation of the video is that the drummer has some connection
to the main character and felt he played a key part, especially with the
iconic beard. I have used illustrator and the pen tool to create a ridged
vector of the beard in the music video, Although this is just one example
of the colour experimentation I have done this personally is the most
psychedelic and stands out clearer.

This concept came from my initial sketch of the net shown previously, I have
drawn an illustration to create a space of a sleeping girl with similar characteristics
to the main character. I have used the net to create an illusion of dream state,
alongside the layering and opacity of the sleeping girl illustration. Although
I like this it isn't as visually strong as the net on it own I feel personally. Out
of my colour experimentation this gradient of black was preferred because of
the representation of the negative effects of drugs.

Although I have written about this concept before, noted on the blog. I like the
idea of using a still from the music video but this is too obvious I didn't know
how to tone this down in the time given so started on other designs, in my
spare time I may re produce this to see if they're better ways of designing
this concept.

Last but not least this is my favourite design out of the 5 this is an illustration
which I have scanned into illustrator to create a vector it is to represent the
drug culture of crystal meth shown within the music video and through out the
lyrics. I have used Red and Blue because of the dimension quality and effect.
