OUGD406 Brief 1 - Developments

Developments - The Chemical Brothers

Clock repetition from the music video, I have designed this based on
the stills I've just done a simple and basic design to see wether to take
it further, I will ask for feedback on this although I liked the idea on paper
it hasn't turned out like i wished it to - with the outlines it looks to harsh
on the eye out of the 4 developments my favourite is the top right and
bottom left because they remind me more of the music video without the
lines it makes your eyes look for the negative space. The green suits the
drug and nostalgia respect from the song although it may be hard to
reproduce a neon colour on print due to print being CMYK.

Top left is some lyrics that are repeated throughout the song - I have chosen
to use the typeface the chemical brothers use for their brand identity
this is too obvious and don't think it is the best solution to the brief.

At the beginning of the music video it shows a girl sleeping. I've illustrated
the girl sleeping in a basic line drawing and scanned it into illustrator, this
doesn't look good as a vector in my personal opinion it feels over
 complicated and does not depict the song to me as I would like to have
vague link to the song/video. I decided to use the space created without
the illustration to create a shadow of white space it is still clear that
someone is sleeping and I have experimented with colour, opacity and
images to see the results. I also combined another design I had for the
song and applied to show the girl is dreaming, I like this indirect concept
and would like to take this further if possible.

These are a few more of my experimentations with the previous design
I am making progress in terms of colour exploration and layering.

Top left - I have tried to create Kaleidoscope effect with images from the
music video and lyrics I'm going to see what this look like digital, with
colour it will pop hopefully.
Bottom Left -Ive illustrated this based on the lyrics from the song "How
does it feel like? waking up in the sun? The idea was create a bed which
looked like the sun so the lyrics were literal.
Bottom Right - An illustration of crystal meth blown up as also mentioned
in the lyrics "Crystal Fiend" this would look good as vector with 3D effect
colours to make it look trippy.

Top left - Initial drawing of a similar style as the chemical brothers albums
this is supposed to represent the nostalgia and drugs that becomes apparent
when listening to the lyrics I have done this digitally to see the result
see - top right.
Bottom Left - Digital vision for my crystal meth drawing I really enjoy
looking at this with the combination the blue and red it creates a 3D
and trip effect. I am going to take this further to see if I can improve it.
Bottom Right - Another digital representation of a kaleidoscope I don't
think this is quite there yet but could be improved. It could because of the
lack of colour.
