OUGD403 Brief 4 Research

Queen/ Twitter Posters

The Sex pistols
The defacing of the queen and insult, this is almost an old version
of the troll in the form of a song the lyrics really depict the image
Jamie Reid created for the band.

God save the Queen
the fascist regime,
they made you a moron
a potential H-bomb.
God save the Queen
she ain’t no human being.
There is no future
in England’s dreaming
Don’t be told what you want
Don’t be told what you need.
There’s no future
there’s no future
there’s no future for you

The image of the queen Jamie Ried has created appears to
be a photo-montage he has created a collection of defaced
images of the queen all insulting her, there is one image with
a safety pin across her lips suggesting she can't speak for herself
the lyrics connote this suggesting she isn't human.

The Queen
A lighter image of the Queen shown in the Movie poster
"The Queen"

Here is a short Synopsis of the movie from IMDB
Diana the 'People's Princess' has died in a car accident
in Paris. The Queen and her family decide that for the
best, they should remain hidden behind the closed doors
of Balmoral Castle. The heartbroken public do not
understand and request that the Queen comforts her
people. This also puts pressure on newly elected Tony
Blair, who constantly tries to convince the monarchy
to address the public.

The imagery used in the first poster is clever it has
a half cut off image of Lady Diana in black and white
possibly hinting at the death of Diana and the grey
area topic.

The second poster is up close and personal also hinting
at a secret possibly, the queen is made up with make up
but the could suggest she is hiding behind it.

Comparing both the movie and the sex pistols album cover
i'd say the queen was portrayed overall negatively especially
in the sex pistols less so on the movie as it is more subtle
it shows an element of shame rather then a negative image.
