OUGD403 Brief 4 Alexander Rodchenko Poster design

Alexander Rodchenko & Matthew Cooper

Really interesting Creative Review post:
http://www.creativereview.co.uk/cr-blog/2008/august/constructivism-the-ism-that-just-keeps-givin

Rodchenko was a constructivist, "a style or movement in which
assorted mechanical objects are combined into abstract mobile
structural forms. The movement originated in Russia in the 1920s and
has influenced many aspects of modern architecture and design."
His poster clearly shows this It has a built up nature with strong
bridges and connection. He has used modern shape and colour to
convey a strong message, It is similar to the times propaganda,
the woman Lilya Brik Is shouting BOOKS in russian, from using
google translate its not completely accurate but this is the vague
translation ио всем отраслям знания = Io all
branches of knowledge
This leads me to believe the poster is trying to promote education
and learning in the style of propaganda.(1924)

Franz Ferdinand was clearly influenced by Rodechnko's work
there is a clear link between Rodchenko's poster and Franz
Ferdinands Album cover - You could have it so much better

(2005)
