OUGD405 Brief 2 - Secondary Research

From my research I have collated a body of information:

This information is re worded into my own apart from facts
and statistics.

The first known tickets were used in the Greek period for the theatre
these were small disks called tessara’s these were made out of clay or
sometimes even bone, from then on tickets were issued frequently to
funerals, events, transport etc…These tickets where not always necessarily
paper tickets some coins etc. But paper was the easiest form some tickets
were very ornate and intricate.
Although the ticket industry is important the most decorative is in concert
tickets but a more widely use of tickets is transport such as Trains, buses
and trams.

average speed of 251kmph.
11.The first steam Locomotive (Steam train) was built in Britain in 1804.
12.Trains we use today were developed from steam trains.
13.Before 1804 as early as 1698 Thomas Savery invented the first steam engine.
14.Earlier trains relied on ropes, horses and gravity.
15.Trains can be powered by energy sources such as steam, diesel and electricity.
16.A monorail is a single rail with the train suspended from it.

OUGD405 Brief 2 - Mindmap

Mind map of 100

The first way instinctively to attack this brief head on was to create
a mind map highlighting different way I could approach the brief over
the christmas period.
As said on the brief it must be a collection which in turn links up to

100 literal or non literal, This is a brief list of some of the things I have
highlighted on my mind map...
  • Coins
  • Clothing
  • Photographs
  • Taxidermy
  • Tickets
  • Sentiments
  • 100 years of history
  • 100 ways to say Hello.. bonjour, hola, etc.

I have chosen to research into tickets because this is both personal and
interesting to me I myself collect tickets from places I have been and
visited including Journeys, Concerts and museums etc.. to keep a memory
of the day.

The next step for me is to research into tickets further to create my presentation,
this will be without doubt fun to do because of my interest in the subject.

OUGD405 Festive Brief

FESTIVE BRIEF

I worked with Hattie Windley!

Research

We decided together to look at previous years work for inspiration
our inspiration came from a pun. We looked at several recipes and
adaptations. These looked simple to do but difficult to make.

We both equally love the Ampersand "&" we came up with a simple

but punny idea

JAMPERSANDS!

We looked for recipes we could follow to great great and tasty jammy
dodgers this is the recipe we used... Here are our designs for the ampersand
dodgers.

We decided biscuits were not big enough a challenge this lead
us to delve to make a victoria sponge with a keen influence of
jam.

OUGD405 Brief 2

Brief 2
Design Process - Research

Produce a body of work that investigates the term/concept/value/number
100 by collecting, recording, documenting and categorising.
You will prepare a two min presentation on this body of work..

Considerations

Identify a specific content in relation to your theme that will become
your individual focus for this brief.
You must collect the following:
  • 20 FACTS
  • 20 OPINIONS
  • 20 WORDS
  • 20 STATISTICS
  • 20 PHOTOGRAPHS
You can collect in excess of 20 pieces of information if appropriate.
How do you translate, manipulate and process your information within
the context of “100”?

Content for work can often stem from your own interests, passions,
obsessions and opinions. It is recognition of and an investigation into
these personal concerns that help you to develop an individual voice within
the creative industry.

Tone of voice

You are collecting and recording a range of observations, ideas, scenarios
and interests. Have a camera with you at all times and don’t pre-judge the
type of images that might be useful.

Take a surplus of photographs and collection additional information then
edit it down later. The more choices you have the easier it will be to make
discoveries, analyse, evaluate and create connections.

Requirements

Research-
Demonstrating an application of a range of appropriate and inventive
approaches to collecting, organising and responding to primary and secondary
source material.
Worksheets/Notebooks/Test Pieces-
Demonstrate an ongoing visual, practical and conceptual investigation.
Design development and process driven research, material and media
including their appropriate application.

Blog Entries-
Demonstrating the critical evaluation of contextual references and
contemporary design practice appropriate to the project.
Your subject matter, work and presentation must be interesting and
engaging to both you and your audience.

Deliverables

A quantity of good quality research that demonstrates an appropriately
broad range of approaches to visual and conceptual enquiry.
  • 20 FACTS
  • 20 OPINIONS
  • 20 WORDS
  • 20 STATISTICS
  • 20 PHOTOGRAPHS
A two min presentation.

My Brief Analysis

To collate a body of research on something that is personal to me
and relevant to collections so for example something I collect, a
family member collects or friends - to then document it using
  • 20 FACTS
  • 20 OPINIONS
  • 20 WORDS
  • 20 STATISTICS
  • 20 PHOTOGRAPHS
To use the information I have gathered to create a 2 minute presentation
this could be a physical, a powerpoint etc,

OUGD405 Brief 1 - Final Outcome

Final Outcome

I chose to use these designs as my final set for frame inserts
I felt after much experimentation these were the most successful
to the target audience, they target both boy and girls due to the
colour being baby blue, I used Helvetica light nueue due to it
being easy to read and the most legible it also fits in with the design
due to its modernity and fluidity.

OUGD405 Brief 1 - Development pt2

Developments - Combining my tessellation with the bees

I have experimented several ways of placement I felt some worked
better than others...

1. Here I have used my initial concept, Although simple It is too
complex and is not how i had imagined my design to come out
so I kept experimenting.

2. I Have simply changed the colour of the tessellation here I thought
this would make it more simple and effective, although making it easier
on the eyes it is still not quite what I'm looking for I think this is due to
the size of the bees they almost loose effect.

3. The first two developments lead to me enlarging my bee character
although this is clearer It is now taking too much space up in the image.

4. I have tried simply filling the bee the naturally black and yellow
stripes, this is gareish and too contrasting to the design.

5.Pattern of bees - I decided to try placing bees in a certain order to create
a pattern this originally sounded like a good idea when I thought of it
but it some became clear it was over complicated.

These are a few more examples of my experimentation.

To create gaps between the spacing I used VA at 300, this looked better than
plain text.
